Abstract: Professor Emeritus Grant Goodman discusses his role as a Japanese Language Officer for military intelligence in World War II, studies at Princeton and the University of Michigan, teaching in the Philippinesbecoming a historian of Japan at the University of Kansas, experiences in academia, the February Sisters, and the evolution of East Asian Studies at KU.

University of Kansas East Asian Studies Graduate Student Research Forum


East Asian Studies Graduate Student Research Forum 
4:00-5:30 p.m.  Friday April 12, in Room 455 of the Watson Library

Professor Eric Rath, History, will be the forum moderator and 10 graduate students in various disciplines will talk about their research. There will be time for questions and answers.  Please come to listen to interesting topics that other students are working on.  Topics such as research methods and primary sources will also be discussed.  You can participate by providing  your input and suggestion or sharing your research interests, if time allows.  Refreshments will be served.  Come, and let’s share the fun of doing research and sampling some good food.   Bring your friends and make sure they don’t miss out the event.

1833-1949 Late Qing and Republic Era Chinese Periodical Full-text Databases 晚清,民国时期期刊全文数据库(上海图书馆)



Users can search the full-text and find original article (in image). The trial will start from now through Sept. 30. During the trial period, KU has limited number of downloads. Please use the download function sparingly. If we reached the download limit, users can request articles use the Interlibrary loan services.

The full-image databases include the late Qing periodical databases (Wan Qing qikan quanwen shujuku 晚清期刊全文数据库,1833-1911), and Republic era database (Minguo shiqi qikan quanwen shujuku民国时期期刊全文数据库, 1911-1949).

China Doctoral Dissertations Full-text Database | China Masters' Theses Full-text Database



KU is now having the database trials of the China Doctoral Dissertations Full-text Database and China Masters' Theses Full-text Database. These are published by Tsinghua Tongfang CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), Beijing, China.

The trial period is from today through September 30. Users are able to search full-text dissertations (1984 onward) and master theses (1984 onward) produced by many China institutions.

The trail is set up by KU IP access. Users can access both Doctoral Dissertations and Masters’ Theses from KU database trial page at: http://www.lib.ku.edu/data_trial/

China Core Newspapers Full-text Database

China Core Newspapers Full-text Database contains articles from about 500 newspapers published in every province of China from 2000 onward. It is updated daily. Provider: Tsinghua Tongfang China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI).

The trial period is from now through September 30.
