University of Kansas East Asian Library Research Travel Grants
The Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Kansas, a
federally designated National Resource Center, is offering travel grants to
scholars outside the Lawrence Kansas area who wish to use the University's East
Asian Library collection during the 2014-2015 academic year. A limited number
of travel grants of up to $350 each will be awarded to cover travel and lodging
expenses. Applicants at institutions with few library resources in East Asian
languages will be given priority consideration. The awards must be used before
August 1, 2015. Applications will be reviewed by the travel grants committee.
Faculty members and graduate students engaged in dissertation research are
eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 1, 2015.
The East Asian collection has over 325,000 volumes in Chinese,
Japanese, and Korean with substantial periodical holdings and electronic
resources. The collection is especially strong in the fields of Chinese and
Japanese art history, history, literature, religion, and Japanese women's

of your research topic, the type/subject of materials you are seeking, an

SWCAS & MCAA Joint Conference, October 3-5, 2014
The Southwest Conference on Asian Studies (SWCAS) and the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA) will hold a joint conference on October 3-5, 2014 at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, KS. This marks the 6th time that the MCAA conference will be held at KU, but it will be a first for the SWCAS conference.
Registration costs for the conference will be $55 for faculty and $25 for graduate students and independent scholars. In addition, all conference participants will be expected to join either MCAA or SWCAS. Membership costs for either group will be $20.
